hi,

i just started running some adsense on my site.

when google doesn't know what to put for the ad or they don't have anything to put up i'm just using the blank color option for now.

i'd rather have it just display ads instead. isn't there a way i can assign some default keywords so it can display some default ads?

how?

this is for the public service ads. btw, what is a public service ad?

thanks

Welcome to the WW community! Have you checked out AdSense's FAQ and resource center yet? Lots of useful information in there that should help you with the default ads and colors.

A public service ad is an ad for a charity or other community service ad that displays when there is nothing to display for the content you are showing.

Generally speaking, there is no approved way for regular puclishers to do this.

You do have a couple options though.

1: Alternate ads
You can specify an alternate ad to be shown if there are no paying ads available. This can be as simple as building a page that promotes something on your site and where the content content on the specified page fits the adblock available.

2: Collapsing adblocks.
Google provides a code that lets the adblock simply collapse if there are no paying ads available.

You can learn more about both these options at the Adsense pages on google. Here's a link to the relevant Google page [google.com]

1: Alternate ads

Can we designate the Google search bar to show up?

We replaced ours with an ad block due to poor performance however there are times when the block doesn't show up.

Can I work it so the search bar shows up when there is no ad available?

Public Service Ads are charity ads that also include socially responsible ads, such as prevention of forest fires, etc. You don't earn anything with Public Service Ads, but you give something back to your community. Isn't that a wonderful feeling?

*lol* (I am just being sarcastic - of course we should give something back to our community).

My accountants say that I can book PSA'a as a charitable contribution, and get a tax refund on them!

So how do we track all the PSA'a that Load LOL
