Of course you can.

Google might ban the sites for duplicate content, but if you don't care about that, there's nothing stopping you from building two identical sites.

To answer your question: You can build two websites with identical content and put AdSense on only one of them.

But you have to think which goals you want to achieve. Why not make one website and put it on www.yourowndomain.com. This looks more professional than a free hosting provider and there is no problem with a duplicate content penalty in the Google search engine. Also maintaining one website takes less time than two.

why just 2? why not 10?

or 100 for that matter!

Buddy if adsense money was so simple, anyone would have multiplied their successfull sites by 100 ( or may be more )

Think of the publishers who make 10000 dollars on a site. and then multiplying the same site on 100 domains.. boy! thats a blast!

Now seriously, the consequenses. If your successful sites gets banned sue to duplicate content, instead of the actual duplicated one, you tend to lose everything.

Well, yes and no. The original PageRank algorithm of Google used to count the number and values of the links to a page to determine the ranking of the page in the search engine results. This is still the case BUT, many people have abused this system by building networks of links and Google is very good at detecting these artificial linking schemes.

Because of this, duplicating your site won't help your ranking in Google anymore. I would advice you to read some threads in the forums New to Web development [webmasterworld.com], Google News [webmasterworld.com] and Link Development [webmasterworld.com]. After some weeks reading there you know exactly how to get a decent ranking in the Google search engine.
