My eCPM decreated 50% when I have add a forum to my website. Why?

probably because you had more impressions and a lower overall CTR.

It just means that your average earnigns per 1000 impressions dropped because you are serving more impressions (via your forum).

Ads in forums don't seem to be as effective as other types of ad placements.

What is more important (in my opinion) is if your overall earnings went up or down.

E(s)/P(s) = 2 * (E(s) + E(f))/(P(s) + P(f))

Forums have always had pathetic eCPM rates. How long have you been on this forum? Ever click an ad here? Exactly. Once you're a regular and part of the community you're no longer going to a site in the name of research or seeking out information. You're exactly where you want to be. You also get numb to the ads.

I'm not sure WebmasterWorld is the best example for this since there aren't really any ads on the site :)

What is it?

It's everything you've told us in a mathematical formula. As you can see there's not enough information to solve the equation.

Forums don't deliver the CPM other parts of your site do. Our forum has around half the CPM of our self written content pages.

However: The total money counts. I don't mind lower CPM as long as the total $$ is higher.

Just occasionally in mathematics an equation might be acompanied with a explanation of what each factor could represent.....
