If a person puts AdSense ads near the top of their web page HTML, and Google spiders the page, does the spider consider the content of the ads?
If so, then this could lead to a situation where a certain page might rank very high in Google SERPs for the wrong topic. i.e.: (1) Google serves up an ad with low relevance. (2) Google spiders the page including the ads near the top and ranks the page partly based on ads and not content. (3) User does a Google search, gets the site, and finds irrelevant content, but highly relevant ads.
Recently someone posted here who had irrelevant ads, but high CTRs. It seems to me like this is one scenario that would lead to that.
If this is a realistic scenario, then it seems like it would be a good idea to get the main content above the ads, which might be difficult if someone wants to use the Leaderboard ad block near the top of the page. It's 728x90, which would be the full width of most pages.
