For a given topic /page, I notice that my Earning per Click vary between X cents X/10 cents.

Apparently google pays the full price only for one click per one unique IP address. After that they pay a tiny fraction.

So, I am thinking unless you have millions of visitors, you can never make good money with adsense.

It's only a lose lose situation if you assume the advertiser continues to pay the full price - I certainly would not assume that.

That's a strange theory. I don't see how you can have data to support it. Do you only have one ad per page? Most adblocks have at least two.

I generally use a 4-adblock on each page. It wouldn't surprise me if for example the top ad paid 50 cents, the next paid 30 cents, the third paid 20 cents, and the fourth paid 15 cents.

The more ads you have, of course, the greater the chances that someone won't click the best-paying one.

Personally, I make what I regard as good money from fewer than 50,000 page impressions per month. But then, I'm not trying to live off my site.

greed eventually overtakes most companies.. for all i know advertisers could be paying google $1 a click and google keeps $0.97 and gives the publisher $0.03 cents. you have no way of knowing so they could be screwing everyone and you can't do anything about it but wait for Yahoo.

I don't know why you would assume that Yahoo would be more ethical about this than Google has been.

I don't see Yahoo as being a "holy grail" for publishers.

They are a corporate business with shareholders to answer to just like Google. They are in it to make money just like Google.

It should be interesting to see if the Yahoo publishers ad network reality (if one ever launches) lives up to all the fantasies.

now that google is a public company, they release their earnings info every quarter. it has been calculated by other members of this forum that google keeps around 20%... so while it may be theoretically true that in your case google is keeping 97% of the share, that means that they would have to be giving a huge share to other publishers to get the overall average down.

if you are not getting a lot of money per click, i suspect that the most-likely scenario is that you are not getting high-paying ads on your site to begin with.

it seems logical that google would give the highest-paying ads to those publishers who send converting clicks to the advertisers.

i disagree... i think you can easily make more money by creating high-quality content pages, and work on trying to send better-converting clicks to the advertisers.

You're incorrect.

There are many publishers in the 10k club with far less than that.
