Adsense Keyword Revenue

How do you figure our keyword revenue

I have a site and placed adsense ads on it. I looked up the keyword in adwords and it's going for somewhere $5+. But I just got some clicks on the banners and adsense only pays me somewhere around $0.05. Are they keeping the rest $4.95 to themselves. Do graphic and text ads for same keywords pay different?

A) The rates you see under preview on adwords are the max an advertiser will pay. It doesn't necessarily mean that's how much they're paying for that keyword.

B) Smart-pricing can reduce the CPC you're getting.

Although you can see what people are willing to bid for a keyword, there really isn't a way to know what you will get.

i don't think many people outside of the google engineers who work on it, know exactly how smart pricing works, but i doubt that PR has anything to do with it. rather, it probably has to do with the conversion rate of those who click on your ads.

in other words, publishers that send converting traffic to advertisers are likely rewarded with higher payouts and a better assortment of high-paying ads.

Yep! I beleive that's the hidden feature of conversion tracking script provided to adwords users and is the answer to many questions about the ever shifting revenue stream.
