Link Units, do they work or should I use only boxed ads?

Do Link Units really work?

I am considering a mixture of Link Units & Boxed ads, what's been everyones experience with a blend of the two? Does anyone have any experience with JUST Link Units?

I was surprised at how well adlinks work inconjunction with the other ad types.

Before I assigned a specific channel to adlinks I would have bet they weren't making money for us. To my shock they are.

You have to experiment. I have found only one place on my site where they do well--the home page. But AdLinks does EXTREMELY well there. I get about half my AdSense income from that one AdLinks block.

Other places I tried them they didn't do anything. To put this in context, my site has a low ad presence. No more than one AdSense adblock on any page, and in some cases none. I tried AdLinks in addition to that block or instead of that block.

I went through the stuff on AdLinks but they don't really seem or look like links at all. I was hoping that they were more low profile so that I could mix them/blend them into my content better instead of having it look Ad'ish.

Any thoughts?

Now, why would you want to do that?

I've had a good result using Adlinks so far.

On the best performing pages that I put them on they are out performing the regular ads.

On the worst performing pages I put them on they are at least generating some additional income, even though they seem to perform worse than the regular ads as far as CTR and eCPM goes.

On the pages in between, they sometimes do better, and sometimes worse than the regular ads.

Overall, installing them has been a huge positive so far.

[added] I should say that I've added Adlinks in addition to keeping the regular ads on each page.[/added]

I use Adlinks only on one of my sites where the Google algorithm has diffculties finding the right ads. These adlink units perform the same or better than regular ads on those pages. On pages where ad targetting is not a problem I prefer the normal ad blocks.

We use an AdLinks box at the bottom of each page on our sites and they have been quite successful. The visitor only sees them after already scanning through the page where we also have normal ad blocks.

We used to have a search box on one site and now have replaced it with the AdLinks box and one small square ad box. The combined total is much higher than the search box ever produced.

We also tried the new straight line AdLinks bar for a week.
The results were 1/3 that of the box. Have now deleted the bar and returned to the box.
