How long does it take?

For changes in EPM to happen

I've taken some advice here in the forum and removed ads from all the low paying/low converting areas of my site. I'm still experiencing the same EPM, but with a much lower number of total clicks, so my total earnings are pretty low. It's a terrifying step to take. :-)

How long do you find it takes for these changes to settle out to new levels? I just need to know when I should consider the experiment a success or failure.

You may have gone too far. You shouldn't have a "much lower number of total clicks" when you do this.

When I have pruned pages/channels in this way, it was to remove ones that were getting no clicks or very few. So that, as a rough example, I am removing AdSense code from 10% of my pages, but am only removing 1% of my clicks.

When I have done this, my effective CTR rose at once, and the increase in EPC kicked in the following day.

Suggestion: Go back to what you had before. Divide the pages/channels you removed into, say, 10 chunks, ranked by CTR and earnings. Pull AdSense code from the very worst chunk. Watch to see what happens. Then do the next chunk. Stop when you no longer get a positive effect.

Sorry, I shouldn't have said "much lower clicks". It's a few less clicks, but a much lower EPM because I'd done a previous experiment where I'd put 3 ad blocks on every page. So I'm probably still getting the fallout from that.

I'm serving up about 50% of the impressions, and getting about 90% of the clicks. But my EPM is strangely low.

i also tried this. shifting from 3 adsense blocks to 1 ( in addition to an adlinks block )

My CTR is lower by 25% or so.

My EPC is almost same. so I am earning about 25% less , I shall wait for this week to see an effect.

If i see some gain, or even same earnings, I shall continue with the same, else shift to earler 3 blocks

To clarify: We aren't talking about the same thing. I've never had more than one adblock on a page (other than a few experiments that didn't work). So I've gone from one adblock to none. The effect might be different if you are simply reducing the number of adblocks on a page.

That's similar to me, so I'm assuming there must be some overall delay in the system. About 4 months ago I made a bunch of changes that dramatically improved my CTR. For about 3 days I was making an insane amount of money, told everyone I was rich, rich! And then the lower EPM kicked in and it was back to a little above normal, sadly.
