Problem tracking Google Ads on Free Host

Hi there!

We were wondering if anyone had ideas on a little problem we have encountered with a free hosting service we have recently started providing.

We currently allow users to place our google adverts within their pages to cover the costs of the hosting service.

We do not inject or force the adds on using mod_layout ect. The users add the adsense code to the pages themselves.

My question is about how we can track to see if our users have indeed placed the code on their pages, so that we can put in place a system that can email them to remind them to put the adverts into their site.

We could run a cron job to search for the code on their sites but that would be very disk intensive ect.

We have looked at a adsense tracking script I found on google, and using mod_layout to inject this tracking script onto the users pages could monitor wether the adds are present. But this script does not look at the Pub Id of the adds, It only looks at clicks and impressions ect.

I have found with apache 2.0.54, php5 and mod_layout v4 that mod_layout corrupts phpbb forums ect, I think its a problem with comperession but don't like corrupted pages :)

Can any one help me or point in the right direction with this?

Thank you very very much Webmaster World Members!

Craig.

I would be careful with this, since one of your users could easily violate the TOS and then you would be out of a google adsense acct. I just put a header banner up directing visitors to a rotating private banner set, so that there are no concerns. you can use php_prepend for this...

I am experimenting with php prepend and mod layout, but i'm having trouble using both of these,

have you got any tips on how how to do this without screwing up phpbb sites and others?

Kind regards

Craig.

I thought Google requires that you own the websites you display the ads on, not simply provide free hosting for other peoples sites...

Just my 2 cents

From "What's adsense"

AdSense delivers relevant text and image ads that are precisely targeted to YOUR site and your site content.

Not only all of the above, but you aren't allowed to put adsense on non-content pages like LOGON pages, or MADE FOR ADSENSE PAGES [which this falls within] etc. If you insert them on all pages how can you make sure all the pages you put ads on comply with the AdSense rules?

You obviously can't, so you obviously don't care, so why should we?

waiting to chime in on your MY ADSENSE WAS CANCELLED thead

Well...I see MANY oCommerce sites offering their pages for free. Of course, they have THEIR Adsense code on the page, but MY products are featured.
Kinda makes it MY content then, does it not?
The reason I noticed this was because I started to put my code on the page, then noticed they already had theirs on it....and 2 accounts are not allowed on the same page, obviously.

What is your take on offering people Blog templates on your server then...with your own code already on them?
Do you feel this is against the TOS?

If this program is as many are interpreting the TOS, then there are millions of sites out there clearly not following it, IMHO.

Their are millions of sites out there just ripe for cancellation but the adsense team will eventually get them.

To be absolutely SURE you are not going to break the T&C email Google and ask them your questions...then you will have it right from the horses mouth.

Hi there,

I have notieced other free hosting companies adding there google banner to the top of all sites they host. This is exactly what we want todo.

Google for freesuperhost and look at any of those millions of sites.

I am still stuck how exactly to get apache to add the banner without breaking mainly php bb type sites and CMS's

Has anyone got any tips?

Craig.

TIP #1 - Did you ask Google is what you want to do it allowed before you start?

Many things you see are only offered to PREMIUM PUBLISHERS and regular AdSense people can't do those things.

Yes, freesuperhost is a premium publisher. And although I can't see a reason it wouldn't be ok to put ads on the sites you host, it never kills to ask.
