The revenue from this kind of traffic isnt big. The site will probably grow (I hope) to 100,000 to 200,000 impressions a day within two months and that will be nice, but I'd love to look at other options.
For that reason - are there any other recommended advertising venues worth considering? I.e. adsense competitors that have worked well for you?
I know this is a stupid question, but there seems to be so much out there - from real to dubious to totally bogus schemes, I'm not sure how to weed things uot.
For the record, my CTR is really low ;(
My layout is basically this
[top navigation]
[ ad ]
[content]
[ad]
....
I am adding a new feature to the site soon that will basically make it do this (and I'm hoping this helps)
[top navigation]
[content piece 1-4]
[ad]
[content piece 5-10]
[ad]
[next page link] (near the ad)
Waht do you think?
Give it up dude, those number are pathetic. I got close to a million impressions after only a week.
Hell, it's not worth getting out of bed in the morning for a site that can't even get a measly 100K inpressions/day out of the box. Nearly 3 weeks now and you aren't even close.
With numbers like those you must be living in a cardboard box and begging for spare change.
With 60,000 ad impressions a day, I would rather get INVITED by google ..... :)
btw, whats your low ctr? 98%? ( rofl )

Also, How about writing a book on 60,000 impressions a day in 20 days! u wud be rich selling that book! I can order my copy today!
Roadkill gets through some 3 TB of bandwidth a month and still has huge problems! Eh Roadkill?:-))
Your post suggests that you're one of those sites with good popular traffic that then disappears elsewhere. Do you leave open routes out of your site rather than giving your visitors the reason to click?
How many page impressions per visitor do you average?
Without knowing the type of site you have it's difficult to give too much advice.
... of course it's very easy to get a million a day...
Yeh, it's trival, not even worth commenting on. I get that many before breakfast most days.
...whether you would make any money from it is another thing...
Yeh, that's the tricky part. Just how do you make money off only a million visitors a day. Virtually impossible I'd say.
Which planet do you people live on?
wat is ur site about or sell? wat is ur site address? i wanan check it out.
I'll just remind new folks that posting your URL or specific information about a site is strictly forbidden in this forum.
With all respect to Arian's intentions, it's not usually a good idea to post that your site is successful (getting lots of traffic, or earning a lot of money) then telling everyone what your site / strategy is. People have been known to copy the idea (or the site) in its entirety.
Also, maybe we can take the trouble to type words in completely, and avoid "chat shorthand" (ie "wat", "ur" and "wanna").

[edit reason] No urls, thanks. See TOS [webmasterworld.com] [/edit]

Hope this isnt out of line, but... I never really understood this part: we can put our URL in our profile, but not in our posts? What is the difference then if someone just says, "refer to my profile" in a post?
On my planet you'd have to be brain dead to fail to make a fortune on 1 million vistors a day. Even with a miserable 50,000 impressions after 20 days you'd have to work at being incompetant not to make a very decent income (i.e. enough for you not to have to go to work).
You all should move here. It's called Earth. You may have heard of it.
Next fantasy please...
Infect, with these words you are treading the thin line between seeking advice and boasting.?:)? What kind of income are you getting from this site and how much do you want to get eventually? If you are really new at this and you're getting this much traffic already, then you are one lucky ______!
On my planet you'd have to be brain dead to fail to make a fortune on 1 million vistors a day.
You're not looking at this logically.
One million a day is not a problem, it is from where that traffic is derived and how much it costs to deliver the facilities and back-up for the traffic.
Quite simply, if your expenditures exceed income then you're bust!
So how is it I'm not making money?
My CTR, when I say is low, I mean low. Those of you talking about 12% are crazy higher than me. My CTR is 0.1%.
Thats right, 0.1%.
Do the math. Even with 35,000 ad impressions a day, thats not many clicks and not a lot of revenue. Even when I'm pushing 60,000 a day, thats not much.
I just changed the layout last night, well see how it does today.
So far, today, im still at 0.1%.
(To the guy that asked what my site was... forum rules dont let me say I think - it was pretty clear no advertising or 'check out my site' allowed)
I'm seriously looking for advice here. I think the site has potential to do much more traffic, but with a CTR like this, I need to try and figure out what I'm doing wrong.
- Place them top left of your page?
- Try blending them in!
- Place them in with content?
- Make them look interesting so people will click because they're interested.
Maybe your whole site is screeming click me to the end user, keep it simple all same colour ideas and then when everything is in order try changing the ads, leave in one place for a week monitor then move. Keep moving and changing colours to get the best results!
(notice how only one thing really stands out in this post and your eye was drawn to it? Think about how to do that without doing it to everything...)
So tonight im planning on reframing the content such that i have a left banner and a right banner framing the content.
Up until now I've had (on internal pages)
[ad]
[begin content]
[content]
[content]
[content]
[content]
[content]
[end of content]
[ad]
Usually the end of content fit on your screen, so you'd never go below unless you scrolled by mistake.
I'm trying to switch it tonight so that it's more like this:
[banner]
[navigation]
[content]
[ad] [content] [ad]
[content]
[end content]
So that the ads display alongside the content rather than above and below.
Before I do this I plan on making custom channels for each ad section - i.e.
custom channel - left banner
custom channel - right banner
custom channel - top ad
that way, hopefully, i can tell which placement is working and which isn't. I'll probably do that tonight, let it run a few days and then tweak.
- Place them top left of your page?
Yes, on the main page but not within content pages. Thats the next update I want to try as I mentioned above - I think this will help a lot.
- Try blending them in!
Working on that, they are blending in more and more. Trying to figure out a good way to put a link unit in my content.
- Place them in with content?
Blended them a bit more today on the main page, subpages need work. I'd venture that a good 80% of my traffic is to subpage content (i.e. /contentxy/ rather than /), so this may make a huge difference.
- Make them look interesting so people will click because they're interested.
Hard to make it look interesting... but thinking of ways to do it.
So far, the changes to the layout I made last night seem to have made almost no difference - my CTR today is still 0.01%
So far today - 30,000 ad impressions and my CTR is still 0.1% - 30 clicks or so ;(
I'm not sure I want to reveal how I've gotten the traffic just yet (For all I know half of you run similar sites that would compete - I hope you understand)... at least not in detail.
Basically what I've done is invested two to four hours a day advertising the site myself by going online and talking to people to drum it up. Essentially, I'm relying on word of mouth.
I originally wrote a whole bunch more about how I did it, but I realized I really dont want to give too much away just yet... and i keep deleting my text and retyping it again and again and again...
Give me a month or so to make sure my hits are stable and I'll spill the means in more detail.
Sorry, but I keep typing up a description and feeling like I'm giving away too much info. Anyway, it might still be a fluke, I don't know. And yes, I'm aware that spending this kind of time on this site is crazy stuff. My hope is that eventually, say in six months, the site will be self sufficient and I'll be doing 500,000 ad ad impressions a day on its own.
It's a lofty goal, but what the heck, i might as well try.
Could be that your site just isn't a good fit for Adsense - could be also that the traffic you're drumming up just isn't of the right quality although I seem to remember from your stats you are averaging 6-7 pageviews per visitor so people must be interested enough in your content.
How targetted are your ads?
