Increasing site traffic

Is there any better way to increase traffic to my web site other than using PPC.I know several people might have discussed this one. If you have seen any of threads that focus this topic .Please let me know.

Although content can help in a major way, it can only go so far and it's not easy for everyone to create articles or other types of content.

Here's a good one.. hope it is not too specific for the mods.

See if you can find your niche in something like about.com.

If you have an informative page that fits in to what their discussing send email to the editor of that section and request a link to your page.

I did this a couple of years ago and get lots of traffic from that one link.

From my experience content is the key, everything else is just as important, backlinks, quality of your site etc.
