I have been reading this forum for a few weeks now and everyone seems so concerned with the CTR%?

I have been with adsense since mid April earning an average of about 5 bucks a day with my CTR% never higher than .7% with a daily average of 9 thousands ad unit impressions and my site rates in the top five in google search under my (4) important keywords.

Due to my site having a very specific content and I am limited with keywords. When I used keyword suggestions all seem to only offer the ones I already use.

I have about 250 text pages with some images and have 5 thousand subscribers to whom I send out a bi-monthly newletter.

I have google ads (125x125 text ads) on just about text and several text banner ads to compliment my color scheme.

Now here is my question? Should I be able to increase my CTR% to allow me to increase my earnings... if so... please, offer me some suggestions... I would greatly appreciate any feedback... thanks

Yes most definetly. use 250x250 squares "above the fold" and just above your main content as google suggests int their optimization tips page and you will see a drastic click through improvement.

I put a Large Rectangle beneath my Header and above my Content, and saw a 400% increase in click-throughs.

With 9,000 ads you should be able to hit $50/day with a 2%-3% CTR

Experiment - the box ads never worked for me, I have my content framed like this:

ADLINKS: LEADERBOARD
S
K .... content in here....
Y
S
C .... content in here....
R
A
P .... content in here....
E
R

Okay, Bill you memtioned that with 9 thousand my CTR should be in the range of about 2 to 3%... however I have no idea what your wonderful graphic is suggesting?

Please be gentle... I am a blonde from DownUnder and am not so familar with adsense terms... more details/info please.

Would it be possible to take a look at my site... as it should give you a better idea of what to suggest...

thanks all for you feedback.. as like all that have offered me suggestions I do believe I could earn serious dollars from my ads... more, please, thanks

Dang mediaspree, and I thought my page was looking spammy ;)

Bill you memtioned that with 9 thousand my CTR should be in the range of about 2 to 3%... however I have no idea what your wonderful graphic is suggesting?

I didn't say you should be getting that kind of CTR, I'm saying if you can get it $50/day is possible.

My graphic just shows 3 ad types on the page layout, an AdSense LeaderBoard banner across the top, AdSense SkyScraper on the side and AdSense AdLinks up in the corner above the skyscraper. That kind of layout works for me but many others like mediaspree have good luck with those big BOX ads.

Best I can tell you is to setup a few samples of various ad types on a couple of your high traffic pages and see what pays best.

Hey ElvisFan, I'm blonde too, if I can do it anybody can. In one month, I have more than doubled my CTR.

These are my actual stats with some of the numbers blocked out(number of digits is accurate).

Date, impressions, clicks, CTR, eCPM, and bottom line:

Sunday, May 1, 2005 **,*** 333 2.7% $*.** $**.**

Wednesday, June 1, 2005 **,*** 1,127 6.7% $*.** $***.**

First, you gotta find the right ad placement, what works best for you, then pick the right colors when configuring your ad units.

Decide first how many different formats/colors you want to try(do some research first), divide up your pages, channel them... test, watch... see what's working and what's not.

It took me a month of working on it to get this done, explaining everything I did in this one post just isn't possible.

Start by channeling and testing different formats/colors!

Thanks for your suggestions... I am trying to learn on the run... okay I have since added my site URL to my profile... that should give everyone an idea of what I am trying to accomplish...

I have channelled most of my pages and it seems my frontpage gets the most hits... for obvious reasons... that is where I add a link update news leader to my text page...

I have modified my ad colors to blend-in with my page format... have a skyscraper down the right hand side and text ads above the fold... I do not have the space to place a large banner ad across the top... too much text...

I willing to do what is takes to increase my earnings however, still trying to get my head around adsense but find that talking to real folks is so much more rewarding...

If I could see examples of what is being suggested I think I could grasp this adsense in the bud so to speak, thanks
