Everytime I login to AdSense I see this message offering me AdSense optimization. I thought everyone got this message?

Well I ignored it for a long time.

Anywho, today an AdSense rep called me and scheduled to call back tomorrow for an optimization conference. Anyone else had one of these calls?

I mean.. isn't it awkward explaining ad placement over the phone...? :)

It will be interesting how this goes.

It would only be awkward if you have to hang up and log in everytime he says - see, looking at xyz page you might consider abc :)

I am sure it was Google...but be careful.. could be someone trying to get information from you. (Maybe I am paranoid!)

LOL thank god I have cable!

If I had dial-up, boy, that would be fun!

WOW! - I just had a revelation - just don't give them your password if they ask!

What a scam someone well versed with AdSense could pull calling around pretending to help people "optimize" just to get passwords "here, let me make a color template for you..." and change the EFT destination and collect your earnings for a month. Scam the right people and you could pull off a better heist than robbing a bank!

Near the end of the call I asked about pay-per-impression ads. She said that they are already testing these. I asked how someone would get considered, and she said I would need to enable image ads for that (im not sure if she meant only image or image & text..i guess i should have asked). Good to know.

Oh and just adding to the above. I asked hoq it worked.. I brought up the possibility of people shoving ads into the corner of the screens to get impressions from it. She said they encourage "above the fold" and the advertisers basically choose the criteria of how they want to be displayed (ad placement, and size). So if you use little ones and hide them in the corner, chances are you will get little interest in people wanting to pay you for these ads. Just a FYI, in case it wasn't mentioned anywhere else.

was there a post chopped out of this thread?
Seems like I'm missing the meat of the interaction with Google rep.

Well the first half of the conversation was just her explaining good ad placement, and pages that I didn't have ads on that she thought might be good to have them on. Wasn't really useful for you guys :)

Near the end I brought up the pay-per-impression stuff (since i haven't heard much about it)
