Still can't believe it, rather flattered that they would take the time and trouble to pick up the phone and directly call me to pitch to me to ad adsence and other google apps on the site I manage.

Is this a new tactic? Are the wanting new publishers that badly?

It appears so, especially now with Yahoo on the horizon ;)

Very interesting! What's the amount of traffic that you get on your website? And is it about something really unique and special? I figure that they'd do something like that on a website that caters to a field that they have more ads to offer than publishers who can take them.

if they desperatly need publishers to display the ads when they have too many, why dont they just boost our sites in the serps so we get more traffic, even though they only provide a percentage of site traffic we will get more, they can do an algo for this to promote any site that publishes.

In a business world money comes first so they can allow a few not so perfect reults once in a while

Well we can dream cant we

No phone call here but who got a Christmas present from Google last year? I got a clock radio that's pretty cool.

Everyone got the clock. A lot of them turned up on ebay just within a couple of days.

I wouldn't have parted with mine, though. I thought it was pretty neat (and the guys at the googleplex were thinking "See how easily we manipulate these fools. We need only mail each one a simple artifact from a taiwanese plastic factory once a year and all their misgivings about their earnings will be quickly forgotten. Mu-ha-ha-ha!"

The_hat

Did they say how they got your contact info?

Did you previously run adsense?

Everyone got the clock.

I didn't. I guess if you only earn $200-300 a month you didn't qualify...

I'm also curious to hear more about The_Hat's site.

Everyone got the clock.

I didn't get a clock and there are banks that will give me a free toaster for just opening an account with what I earn monthly :)

I didn't get a clock either.

A couple of years ago my better half opened a bank account just to get a George Foreman grill. He still has the account but rarely uses the grill. Men!

Yes, MEN!

I use the foreman grill almost DAILY, as a matter of fact it's our second one as we wore the first one out.

The foreman grill is the perfect webmaster grill, cook lunch in 5 minutes flat so you can get back to obsessing over AdSense without getting withdrawl. I use the foreman grill for one pot cooking - throw 2 slices of bread, a slab of onion and a patty of your choice (beef, turkey, salmom, veggie) on and cook/grill/toast them all at the same time. Pull off the bread first, add condiments, slap a piece of cheese on the patty and top the cheese w/grilled onion slab and grill for 10-15 seconds to melt the cheese. Toss it on the toasted bread and eat this and think you've died and gone to heaven.

Not to mention I also make tuna melts. hot pastrami w/swiss and quesadillas on the grill all the time.

It also does a mean job on eggplant too!

If the teflon isn't destroyed I'll pay for the shipping :)

google picked up the phone and call me

I didn't get a phone call, but I did get a card in the mail pitching to put AdSense on one of my domains. I thought this is odd because the domain is parked.

Google must be starting an aggressive program to contact domain owners.

By the way, is it a clock radio everyone got or a mood radio? I got a mood radio with a light that changes colors.

Yeah, the mood radio, that's what I got. Changes colors depending on how you turn it, pretty cool.

All I got was big fat monthly checks unless one of my neighbors stole the package.

Probably stole it, came in plain brown package. You turn it, there are 4 sides, and it changes accordingly. Want mood lights, want the radio?

I wish I got a clock, all I ever got from Adsense was a little green book telling me how to make more dough...

I got a personal email from google offering input and suggestions on the placement of Adsense on my site. I'm not sure how common this is...

I got the radio, put it on my desk and promptly forgot about it, since I've become addicted to Internet radio. Haven't turned it on once. It wasn't until reading this thread that I remembered the thing was there. You think Google was trying to be Retro? I mean, a radio ... how 70s.

Hey guys, how come all of you got something from G? Now I feel ignored...:(

They called me several times. I decided to try and (how I expected) it didnt work out so I removed all Google ads.

4 years without any ads and still alive :-)

My rules: No ads, No popups, No emails

And guess what. It works!

My site is the online version of a small town (mid Nebraska USA) newspaper. Around 500,000 page views a month.

No prior relationship with Google.

Seemed like a nice guy, it was to bad I had to tell him that afaik the corporate entity we are owned by feels that google takes away space from local advertising.

I have received gifts from Google for the past two years on account of my Adwords expenditure.

Last Christmas, I didn't get the clock or indeed any gift despite the fact that my Adwords expenditure was still well over $30,000 for the year.

At the time my Adsense earnings were minimal - seems Google has moved from thinking that Adwords spenders were the most important to thinking that it is Adsense publishers that they should be looking after.....

Fortunately my Adsense earnings are now pretty reasonable so hopefully I won't miss out on any Christmas gifts this year :-)

I'm still awaiting the mythical pin.

Dantol

7:59 am on May 25, 2005 (gmt 0)

I am waiting for PIN too. Three weeks already. And guess what, I am in Canada. It should not take longer than 5 business days to get mail from the USA.

If I don't get my PIN by Friday, I will cancel my AdSense account. I don't need to wait eternity to get damn check from Google.

Hi the_hat,

Although Google have been stingy of late I would probably give it a go.

Nothing ventured nothing gained ;)

The Google clock was a most appreciated gift. I guess this thread may be drifting, but any guesses as to what we will get next year. A toaster or anything that gets plugged into the wall is out, since different countries use different voltages/ampage etc.

Shall we start a campaign for Google Ipods?

I doubt the calling is part of a new and agressive marketing scheme.... They called and emailed to recruit me about 15 months ago.
