It appears to me that all of us with legitimate non-spam sites will benefit greatly from the new Site Targeting to be introduced shortly. More Adwords users will opt into content advertising and more competition between adwords advertisers for fewer good content sites should push cost per click upwards.

What is your take on this?

All my business experience tells me that common sense does not work. Business is highly irrational. You can't just logically conclude what's going to happen. What will happen will happen, you'll see the results when the the mailman or USP truck stops by with your check.

It would make sense that advertisers "might" opt to target certain sites and might be willing to pay more for the perceived benefit of this.

I think it will, at least in a few cases, depend on the industry. That is, will the advertisers even be aware of which sites merit targetting? In many cases, I'm sure this will be doubtful.

I see site targeting as particularly beneficial for website that cater to "very specific" niches. But I wonder if the many adwords advertisers out there for elbonian torque wrenches (borrowing from efv) will even be aware of which sites to throw ads at.

As I recall, Google will suggest possible sites, so advertisers will be able to browse though the suggestions if they don't already have a list of domains they love.
