Hi,

Just noticed one website that the 120x600 ad is floating when i scroll down the page. For example, when i scroll down, the ads on the right hand side will scroll down accordingly. Is this allowed?

Very cool trick. Especially when contents cannot be displayed on the first scroll.

against TOS, I'm sure, unless they asked for special permission. It could be loosely defined as encouraging visitors to click... the dreaded email arrives: Invalid clicks!

Erm, let me clarify.

The ad is not floating. But when i scroll down the page, the ads on the right hand side will follow down accordingly. Is this clear?

Yes, and I don't think it's allowed.

Google's algos, I believe, are based on the page position of the ad, in part.

They don't flat out say so in TOS, but anything that messes with the algos, altering a page position, etc. could trigger an alarm, then the dreaded email... oh, why did it happen? I didn't click my own ads...

They have everything automized, many times, these aren't humans you are corresponding with.

This is definitely against the TOS, no question about it. I do see people doing it from time to time.

Reading this post, I remember a classic case of adsense cheating a few months ago. This guy had set his three blocks in a way that the whole top fold was almost covered with adsense. ( Perfect as per TOS - no voilation ).

Using javascript, he floated a rapid moving fluttering butterfly on the page, random flight type. with a baloonbox saying, Catch me if you can . No incentive was offered to click, but it was very attractive peice of art, which can get people hooked to it. The butterfly was too fast when the mouse reached near it, and if often ,missed the click.. leading the click to land on --- An Adsense Block

The area of the flight was right over the three adsense code.

I am sure he must be getting a lot of clicks in that area. I tried to locate that site today, after reading the present post, but the site no longer had adsense at all. It had some CJ stuff on it. I am sure he must have got a well deserved kick from adsense.. but guy .. this was cerative.

Remember those hit the monkey banner ads?
