I think it was a "make the advertisers" happy kind of thing. I have been on both sides of this, in and out of the corporate side and the small business webmaster side. I think something a lot of us here may not realize is that most corporations, the big companies, want this - image ads, banner ads, whatever you want to call them - because they are comfortable with it and it fits into their bean counting (even if the results are poorer). And - they want massive numbers - millions and millions of page views. I don't see a lot of those kinds of companies using AdSense now - but - I think with the control (they can pick the sites) and the right amount of inventory, and the Google success story, I think they are probably dying to jump in. They just were not going to do that in the current format.

Yes - that is what I was saying - just because you choose that option, that doesn't mean you are in the CPM and not the CPC space.
