I am just starting a new theme on one of my websites. The first 5 pages are finished, about 100 should follow.

I expect from this theme about $200 revenues per month.

When I was last month at the Search engine conference in Munich, I got a 50.-EUR voucher from Overture.

Now I thought to test how EPC advertising works. So I designed an ad campaign for this theme.

Overture estimated for all my selected keywords around this theme

251 impressions per month
3 clicks per month
0.48 EUR monthly costs

I tried the same keywords at AdSense
limited to 0.16 like the Overture proposal

19,7 clicks,
1,02 EUR

but not per month, per day!

Is Overture really a competitor to Google?

Overture actually wasted your time telling you how much 3 clicks would cost? Maybe I'm not understanding your post.

I expected at last 10% of AdSense showing up in Overture. But the difference seems to be 1:60.

At this rate, it would use 8 years to use up my voucher with this campaign.

Overture and Google are not competitors. Overture has it's own advertisers, mainly large companies.

I'm still not sure if I understand your posts, but, no, they don't consider each other competitors(not yet anyway), they target totally different audiences.

Many large companies still don't trust Google. Overture appeals to long standing companies, when it comes to online advertising. There's big money in this field, I understand why Overture doesn't accept just anyone into their program, like Google does. Overture is doing fine with what they have, highly respectable advertisers. Overture doesn't want what Google has.

"Overture is doing fine with what they have, highly respectable advertisers" ... oops, meant to say publishers, not advertisers

Overture and Google are not competitors.

Shure, Overture is much to small.

The theme is in the German market something with 100.000 times per year sold and about 25.000 EUR average sales price.

They're both just wild guesses. Do a test and see how many clicks you really get from Overture and Google, especially if you disable the content network so that you're matching exact phrase vs. exact phrase.
