I attribute it to a strong background in CPA/CPL/CPS marketing. If you don't deliver results, you don't get paid. Often times the results of my CPA efforts are better than those of the AS boxes. I use AS in the following situation...
I've developed a page that will attract users interested in purchasing a product or service, but the advertisers available to me (through CJ or LS) have landing pages that I don't believe will convert, inferior products, or just an unenticing program.
I want to share what I feel is my best tip, because I feel most people just don't get it.
If you want to continue making money with AS, you must provide value to advertisers. Build pages that will convert visitors to buyers, and give them somewhere to go. Put the ad where they will click it. It is very important to provide quality content, or nobody will ever see your page. This takes practice, time, time and more time. Think of how long it takes to learn a new language, because that's what you're doing.
And please, if your earnings are down, don't litter quality forums with conspiracy theories or how unjust you think it is that you're earning less. Face the facts -- you are earning less because AS or advertisers determined your clicks weren't worth it. Whether they are right or wrong is beside the point. It's far more productive to take steps to improve the quality of the traffic you deliver than to be swallowed by self pity.
I'd love to see some replies from others that are improving their performance, especially if you attribute it to something other than what I covered.
What have I done to make this come about? Not one darn thing. I've worked on a few new pages, am currently working on a whole new site (which has generated no Adsense clicks so far and probably won't for a while), but other than that--nothing, really.
My sites have always been content-rich, always written with the heartfelt intention of sharing relevant information. But after some initial Adsense "optimization" several months ago, I haven't done much tweaking of the ad settings.
I'm not saying that working really hard to get the most out of your site won't get results. I am sure it does. But sometimes your site does well--or doesn't--"just because." There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Jan $4100

Over these 8 months Ihave changed the positions and appearances of the ads, have added a few sites and a ton of pages. I hope the trend continues but am happy if it stopps here and remains consistant. Yesterday I had almost a $900 day. This last 7 days has made me $4800. Whereas the best prior week was about $2900.
