How many totally clicks are we talking about exactly? Is it it 6 vs. 1 normally or is it 600 vs. 100 normally? If it's 6, then don't bother. You're not seeing any fluctuation that's meaningful. If it's 600, something's definitely screwy.
If you have less than a few hundred visitors a day, a change in your personal browsing habits could cause CTR to skyrocket. Do you normally frequent your site, or refresh the pages often?
As a compulsive clicker, I've noticed my CTR goes up when I stay away from my sites :-)
Thanks for the feedback guys. Well, by the end of the day, the CTR was double instead of six times as high, I reallt dont see where this is coming from, it is very weird. Also, today's CTR is 1/2 as normal. This is very weird indeed.
My advice is to stop being so jumpy! All sorts of things can cause an increase or decrease, and the changes can often be dramatic. That doesn't mean to say that there is a problem!
It may be that somebody has posted your URL to a forum, loads of people have looked at the link, and quite a few clicked the ads. It may be that for some reason your site topic is hot at the moment - many reasons.
Regularly look at your web logs, and get a handle on where your traffic is coming from. Establish a pattern so that if there are any marked deviations you can make a judgement on why there has been an increase/decrease and what (if anything) you can do about it.
If CTR tripled in a day - I would believe that the system was working correctly rather than worried that I'm going to get booted.
More pages, more ads, more clicks, more bucks. That's my motto.
