Plotting click fraud?

Nip it in the bud...

I visited a forum on a topic directly related to my main website cluster.

The forum Admin just put up AdSense.

Guess what?

The members are plotting to click on the ads in order to "sponsor" the forum Admin!

And the Admin chimes in... "oh, it's not like a dime per click, but just a fraction of a cent per click."

And if that wasn't bad enough... she says she's going to "return the earnings to the community" making the "profits" some sort of prize for a contest to be named later!

Argh!

Click away, folks, that's just more money in the kitty for everyone!

Argh!

The advertisers that show up on that forum are the same that sponsor my sites. If they read this nonsense and pull out of AdWords, it's not good for me!

Did I alert Google? You bet.

Did I agonize over the decision? No way!

;-)

Unfortunately, a search on "Click on Google ads" or similar still produces several blatant examples of individual website owners who are encouraging visitors to click.

Look out for an individual who is keen on writing for the screen.

I added hyphens to the search terms you suggest, i.e.
Click-on-Google-ads.

Found what you're taking about.

I just about fell off my chair!

But I didn't see any ads. I hope they got caught.

I see what you mean. Helleborine, re not being able to see the ads - he asks you to go to a separate page. The enticement to click is on a different page from the ads. I guess he thinks that because the enticement and the ads are on separate pages that is OK with Google. I somehow doubt this!

One would have thought he'd make his money from screen writing, and didn't need to resort to enticing click fraud to pay the mortgage, but what do I know?

I need you to hammer these ads now. Please click the google ads down the side of the page. It raises cash to keep <snip> alive.

So how do we report these things?

We cannot "out" publishers here.

Anyone can contact Google directly about cases of publishers inciting clicks by either emailing AdSense support, using the "contact" form in your AdSense account, or by going to the offender's site/page and clicking on "Ads by Google" and submitting the form.
