Can we alter the colours of google ads?

None of the colours which google use fit into the colours I have on one of my portals :(

Can we change the google ad colours (easily done in the code) or does this violate the TOS?

Yes, you can.

Click on 'Ad Settings', and there 'Manage color palettes...'. There you can create custom color palettes.

But I simple edit the code, it's a lot faster.

There was a time when AdSense first started where you couldn't deviate from the standard color scheme... The ability to customize colors (or colours, if you prefer) is something that many web publishers (including myself) found very important. Google listened, and now you have a broad spectrum of colors available to you.
