Massive increase in Page Impressions

Double my usual daily impressions

I have just logged into my Adsense account, and my reports are displaying double my usual average page impressions, for example 20,000 instead of 10,000 (It is 15:45 GMT here, so around half a day still to go).

Whilst the page impressions are double, the clicks are showing normal type figures.

Is anyone else seeing anything like this being displayed.

I have fired off an e-mail to support just in case, but was just curious to see if anyone else was seeing anomilies.

Thanks to Yahoo indexing a large portion of one of my sites, traffic is up from 1,500/day to about 20,000/day.

This kind of traffic is a first for me. Never reached this level before.

Page view spike happened to me the other day. EPC immediatly cut by 75% and stayed there.

My impressions are normal, but everything else is up today. Yay! I just had two miserable days, Sunday and Monday. I'm glad to see things looking mostly like a normal day again.

Normal day? it's 18:48 MET (9:48 Google time) and I have more than all the Monday.

Thanks to the fast channel stats, I can also look on this.

No special highs, all channels are runing good.

I assume that you are looking at page impressions and not ad impressions.

Also if you have added Ad Links boxes they will double your impressions.

Yep, Google reported page impressions for Monday as more than double what I'd expect. Glad to see someone else experiencing this. :)

Yep, looking at Page Impressions, not Ad Impressions. Not running Ad Links so that's not the problem.

Got a reply from Adsense support, stating that they had reviewed the impressions and they were all "valid & accurate".

In the end, there was a 55% increase in page impressions above my highest ever. Shame that the clicks and earnings were not on the same scale!

My own site stats are showing half of what the Adsense reports are showing, so still a little mystified.

Maybe a bunch of new advertisers that now fill in previously empty ad inventory.

I discovered last month that I get about 4500 PSA's per day.

hello everyone... i have been a long-time WW lurker, and now i am ready to dive in!

i too had a dramatic spike in ad impressions on tuesday. since i break out different sections on that site with different channels, i am able to see that the suspicious activity was on one pair of channels (one for each ad unit on the set of pages in question). both channels had 10,000 more impressions than i would expect for a day.

there was no associated increase in clicks... so the eCPM was abysmal. there was no corresponding spike in my server logs, so this was definitely suspicious.

i contacted adsense, and got a canned response. since then, impressions are back to normal... so far it has been a one-time occurrence.

the only thing i can think of is that it was a counting-glitch, or someone used my publisher code elsewhere.

Seems to be a counting glitch. My server logs were normal too.

Further to my initial posting:

I've just been checking robot activity for the site and have noticed that on Tuesday, when I saw the large increase in page impressions, there is an entry for:

Offline+Navigator+(http://www.softwarea.com) which appears to be an "Offline Downloader"

Would it be applicable that this could be the cause of the increase in impressions?

And if so, how can I prevent this happening again...

TIA

I noticed no such spike myself, but one of my sites is in "busy season" (since the topic it covers culminates with its big event of the year in a little more than a week) so I might not have noticed it if it did happen to me due to the increased traffic I've had as of late. I'm glad that those of you who experienced the spike have had that extra boost.

It seems that it's a bug in Googles reporting systems.
If you have adsense and adlinks on the same page, page impressions are counted twice.
