strange behaviour?

I placed adlinks on my site approximately 1 week ago and created a channel to track it. I placed it on the same pages as another channel tracking skyscrapers. Anyway..the adlinks has only counted impressions on one day and they were very very few in comparison to the other channel. Should not the impressions be the same as the other channel on the same page? Or am I missing something here?

They work differently than normal Adsense. Impressions are counted by clicking through to the google page of results.

Impressions are counted by clicking through to the google page of results.

Not quite as simple as that:

[google.com...]

To get back to bghtn's question:

Should not the impressions be the same as the other channel on the same page?

Actually, according to the above, if you had any clicks at all on the adlinks channel, it should have more impressions.

Not sure what the solution is here. First thing I would do is go back to make sure I grabbed all of the generated code and correctly inserted it into all of the pages I want it on. And then go back and check it again. Wait a couple of days until the new channel stats show up and see if it made a difference.

There's always a chance of a glitch somewhere along the line. If the problem isn't corrected the best bet is to contact Adsense support so they can take a detailed look.

Hmmm...then apparently I have the same inconsistency. My impressions for AdLinks are vastly different than impressions for regular Adsense on the same page.

Duh? Of course, it's probably that the adlinks block just isn't being served all the time. I couldn't speculate on the exact reason (Anybody?), but what you're seeing is probably the effect.

You may have a point there -- I've noticed that some of my AdLinks blocks on well indexed pages will occasionally turn up the Adlinks Search box instead of links. One reload later and the links are back.

turn up the Adlinks Search box instead

But I assume that would count as an impression, no?

I don't think so, no. But my evidence for this is purely anecdotal. I think AdLinks would only generate an impression in that case if someone entered a term and hit "Search."<br>

I think AdLinks would only generate an impression in that case if someone entered a term and hit "Search."

I really don't thin so here. Basing it on that link to the Google FAQ up above, it would appear to be the same sequence:

Impression >> (adlinks search box)
Not Counted Click >> (enter term, click search)
Impression >> adlinks page
Counted Click (maybe)

I'm still leaning to the possibility that adlinks doesn't display all of the time, for whatever reason.

I just did a random click through of the pages of my site...after about 150 clicks adlinks showed up 100% of the time. I am seriously considering replacing adlinks.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. It sure would be good to hear about more observations.
