Adsense alternatives / getting booted

Why would competitors make a difference

Briefly skimming the "I got booted - can't wait for alternatives" threads something struck me.

A common theme here is that competition will change the way Google works. To me, there seems to be a common inference in the above threads that as a result of competition Google are less likely to boot publishers because of TOS violations, and if they do there will be somewhere else to go.

Personally I don't see that having competition is going to make Google go easy on TOS violators, and I can't see any reason that the competition would want to welcome them, or be any less likely to boot TOS violators than Google.

I think competition will be good, but I can't see it providing a safe haven somewhere for click fraudsters.

Any thoughts?

Competition will at least provide those booted from Adsense with an alternative -- then cross their fingers that said competitor will actually do better than Adsense. Well, they ain't got a choice but to make sure that the competitor will do better for them than Adsense so they can say that competitor is making them so much more money than Adsense (as we have already seen here in the forum).

Of course, if they were booted from Adsense because they violated the TOS for whatever reason -- then they can take this opportunity to make sure that whatever took them out in the first place (assuming they know the reason, of course) will not happen again. If they clicked before, they now know better than do it again lest their opportunity to earn from contextual advertising totally closes on them.

But I don't think they should expect the competitors to be less vigilant than Adsense. Afterall, like Adsense, they need to protect their program for their advertisers and for their own bottom line.

My first thought is - another person who believes that everyone who gets booted is guilty.

Competition will change the way Google works. Do you think G introduced direct payment(to take one example) because they have suddenly become philanthropic?

Another way that they might change is because other companies will have different TOS. One competitor I am using makes it VERY easy to ban an IP. No coding, special software on your site etc. Simply go to the page and type in the IP click OK and thats it.

I also have an arrangment with them that if more than three clicks ar emade from the same IP addy in two days then they will stop counting them. I cna then ban the IP addy from even seeing ads. Simple anti fraud measures which will (hopefully) stop any false accusatiosn of fraud (oops sorry, invalid clicks)
