The stats are not updated in real time, and when updated, are done so asynchronously (meaning, different stats are updated at different times).
One consequence of this is not to infer that your CTR has significantly fallen or risen at any particular moment, because maybe Google has updated the impressions count but not yet the click count, or vice-versa.
So, the advice is to check your stats once a day at best, preferably at the end of the day. Better, keep 7-day, and/or 15-day, and/or monthly, ... moving averages, and really only pay attention to those.
Nonetheless...
Even though I know and appreciate those words of advice, stuck in the doldrums, I still can't resist checking my Adsense stats several times daily. (Tsk, tsk, berto.) It can help ease feelings of helplessness (if my clicks and earnings are up, intensify despair if they are down).
Does the Adsense community have any sense (hard to avoid using that word) of how often Google updates the stats?
--Is it hourly? Every x number of hours?
--Several times daily but according to no fixed schedule?
--Less frequently overnight (PST) or on weekends?
--More or less frequently for impressions versus clicks versus earnings? (I know about so-called "click dumps.")
--More often for some sectors/sites? Less often for the smallfry?
And, yes, I know that channel stats aren't available until two days later (unfortunately).
The stats are updated in less than every hour.
Does this apply to everybody? Or only the larger, more active publishers?
I ask because, even though I get y,yyy impressions per day, sometimes it seems that several hours will pass with no impressions updates (including times when I, at least, am accessing my sites' pages, so I know there must be ad impressions).
Also, some authorities have stated that there is a time lag between impressions updates and clicks/earnings updates. Not true?
[added]--and yes, clicks and impressions don't always seem to update on the same schedule.
This is one of the aspects of AdSense I no longer put any energy into trying to understand....
I make around $10.00 a day, but sometimes around 2pm I'll see I'm only at $2.00 for the day, and thinking it's going to be a low day. It turns out in the morning I check my stats and it was $10.00 for the day afterall. So I agree that checking stats during the day isn't too helpful since AdSense has a relatively random way of updating.
