I'd like to ask a question to the AdSense big boys.

Right now, I only use one block of AdSense per page so I only get the top EPC ads.

Another school of thought says that offering several ad blocks, while giving less ECP, will, on a whole, give greater revenue.

What do the AdSense killers do?

Thanks.

Use multiple ad units, with a custom channel on each, and see what has the best CTR. Then use this information to make sure that high CTR ad unit appears first in the HTML and/or remove all other ad units.

<added> I'm not an AdSense big boy... does it matter ;) </added>

Jenstar,

Jenstar, you are the biggest AdSense Big Boy! :)

Always a treat to get a response directly from you. I will try your suggestion, and thanks.

The maximum number of ad blocks or ad units is 3. The best number to use is depending on your goals such as:
- getting the top ads
- getting a high CTR
- getting more earnings
- getting more options for users

Use the channel options as Jenstar suggested to test out your niche.

As my experience told me, the number of ad blocks is not important as the number of ads located at the right place. You can get more earnings on 3 ad units with a total of 4 ads than a single unit with 4 ads. There are many options you can play with. If you know the heat map for AdSense, the job will be much easier.

I'm not a big "killer" on adsense, but I do well for what is a hobby site. Over US$1K per month. I recently added extra banners to add income based on the idea that they might add to the income, but wouldn't affect it otherwise.

What I found was that the second banners only had hits very rarely, so ctr dropped by nearly 50%. I'm pretty sure that what happend then was smartpricing noticed the dramatic change in performance, and what I got paid per click started tailling off. A couple of weeks later I culled all the under used banners, ctr immediately shot back up to the steady normal I had before, and earnings shot up too after about 24 hours.

Now I realise I have no way of proving that smart pricing did this, but it is a bit coincidental that there was such a dramatic change when I removed the banners.

So if you do add extra ads, do as Jenstar says, set up channels and monitor the performance closely. Cull any banners that aren't working asap.
