I signed up for google adsense in dec 2004 and was amazed by the program but last week they cancelled the acc cause of invalid clicks, can someone help me understand what has happened, my website is for a guide to skiing and snowboarding whish has about 60 pages, i put the adverts on about 20 pages and i check each page every day to see how may impressions and clicks appear and take out the adds on pages wot don't get good impressions and putting them on the pages that get the most impression. Plus could it be soething in may html code that caused them to cancel the acc. The website is very popular for a ski guide with an average hits of 10000 a month.

and have you read the Terms of Service (TOS) and complied with it by not clicking on your own ads and not asking/inviting/encouraging others to?

If there was something wrong with the html code you would receive a warning email to change the code, your account has been terminated due to one or possibly more of the following reasons

1 - clicking on your own ads
2 - asking others to click on your ads
3 - having text saying please "click to sponsor our site" or anything similar
4 - your site was hit with a click bot
5 - your site has no content other than ads

99.99999999 recurring comments posted saying they have had the adsense account terminated have been at fault either with clicking on their own ads or encouraging other to click,

be honest with yourself have you clicked on any of your own ads or encouraged anyone by having text just above the ads saying CLICK HERE or similar, google have found a pattern on your account and that's why it's has been cancelled

It will "NOT" be terminated due to any of these reasons
1 - your ugly
2 - they just don't like you
3 - you smell
4 - you've been having an affair

no one yet has posted saying it could be because of my personal hygiene my account was closed ;)

The usual method is to add the url to your profile (under Control Panel, above)

I have only heard of 2 cases where the account was reinstated after being terminated but there will be more, you need to find the information yourself and show it to google to plead your case

You need to analyse your sites log file to look for any patterns or obscure amount of clicks from the same IP number

I'm not saying this will work but its all you can do because they wont give an exact reason why your account was terminated

did your earning or ctr jump up suddenly, this would raise a flag for your account to be looked at

If you have read other threads on adsense accounts being terminated then you will know the only way forward is to put adsense behind you and start using another contextual ad supplier

No one has ever returned to say "hey guess what I have got my account reinstated" by doing xyz...never

Wohh! That's a HIGH CTR. Mine ranges from 2.5% - 3.5%
Like I said earlier in some other posts. I think Google does make certain distinctions on what kind of visitors you are sending and how well they are converting. I would say if your website is not themed then there is a chance of generating many curiosity clicks which don't convert. This may be the problem.

did you use any of these crappy traffic building sites where they will drive zillions of visitors to your site for a few dollars therefore you earned money but the advertiser got stung

google frown upon this type of thing

5 GB traffic per month

$1088 in Ferbruary

If it's a site with many pictures with about 50 KB per page view, 5 GB are 100.000 page views at 15% CTR 15.000 clicks. Makes EPC 7 Cent.

As mentioned by others in this thread your CTR is exceptional high for a general site about skiing. I would like to have 56% CTR, but I am some magintudes behind you (on other subjects). Although it might be all genuine clicks I can imagine that Google decided to disable ads on your pages just to be on the safe side. Although I have no information about CTR of sites in the skiing business, I can imagine that your site's CTR is far above the average and that caused your account to be disabled.

Durbass,

Using your username and skiing, I was able to find your site and forum.

For the life of me, I can't imagine how you got such a high CTR. Where did you have the ads on your pages? Did you have them in your forum too?

durbass, I checked out your site and I can see why clickthrough rates should be higher than the typical AdSense account.

You have a lot of resort-specific resources and that (along with your high PageRank) will probably send a lot of travel-related traffic your way.

I think the initial fear here was that it was a forum site -- or a community site with a constant stream of regulars. If those sites generate better than 1% CTR I would think that Google would flag that as suspicious.

Still, 15% CTR -- or even 11% -- is WAY out of the norm for a site. Yes, some may draw higher but it's easy to see why Google was at least suspicious.

While I haven't seen cases here of folks having their AdSense accounts restored -- Google tends to be pretty thorough before they toss someone out -- Yahoo! is likely to launch its competitive product soon (and MSN.com maybe come next year) so it may not be the end of contextual text ads on your site. Yet I think you will need to take a closer look at why someone was looking to enrich you with unusually high click rates. If that goes unchecked it's likely to happen again.

Search all the posts in your forum and see if there are any remarks like, click the ads. There seems to have been a run on forums getting cancelled lately.

Just a stab in the dark: You have a link to an SEO site at he bottom.

According to Google's program policies:

Deceptive or manipulative content or construction to improve your site's search engine ranking, e.g., your site's PageRank

But, personally, I don't see how having that link constitutes deceptive practice.
