The topic of "Adsense - How much do you earn" is getting a little out of hand now. It's becoming a place for people to shout and criticise each other of who earns the most.

The one important fact they are missing out is .....

How much time do you spend on your site(s) and how much do you spend on advertising in relation to Adsense earnings.

Some of the members are talking about earning $2k - $4k a month, but how much time do they spend on them and how much do they spend on advertising?

They are not talking about profit, and let's face it, profit is what buys the second car, second holiday each year, a few mortgage payments, or the extra nights out.

So, here is the formula I have devised -

$adsense - $advertising - $hosting - ($20 x hpm) = profit
where hpm = hours per month and all $ figures are monthly

My answer is $1400

What’s your answer?

Last month $1900 I think, based on your formula.

But the hpm was a problem since I don't really know how many hours a month I work on my site.

$adsense - $advertising - $hosting - ($20 x hpm) = profit

It should be:

$adsense + $affilliates - $advertising - $hosting - ($20 x hpm) - $cost of mental health = profit

OK, if we are factoring mental health into this equation I'm sunk!

The formula is complete nonsens.

Depending on the themes, the page can bring AdSense revenues over many years.

Creating good pages is a situation like You would only get the interest from the money, You earn.

In Jannuary and February, I was on 6 different fairs and 3 times to make a report about a sports event. About 3000 km with my car underway for AdSense.

The award for all this action is so much more traffic, that I will have my March income $600 over my February income.

When I calculate only 60 month, this would be $36.000. Additional to this, many leads to potential new customers to sell them 2 years ads or a big company profile.

If you only value your time at $20, you most likely are but a bit player in Adsense.

I put $20 as an average. Personally, I put my time a lot higher.

Mike, maybe I am a bit player. Is $1400 clear profit a month a bit player? The sites I run are "part-time" in my life as I am so busy with other things. If I made it a full time job, I could quadrouple that figure, and thats without any advertising.

$50 an hour in my pocket is not bad!

month 1 =$adsense - $advertising - $hosting - ($20 x hpm)- wwt = profit

month 2 =$adsense - $advertising - $hosting - ($20 x hpm)+ {2 x wwt(previous month)} = profit
wwt = webmasterworld time

I think $1400 is a bit player. I make $1,400 on Adsense before I wake up each day. But then again, it's my full-time job.

Exactly Mike. I wish I could spend more time on the websites, and also creating more of them, but family and other business commitments have to come first.

Also, I would not take the risk of making it a full time job. Last year I was making double per month until the disasterous G update (can't remember the name) when my earnings halved.

I work on my site anywhere from 0-60+ hours a week, not because I need to, but because I love to, it's a hobby related website. I usually take summers off(June-August), because I have school age kids and like to travel. In theory, I could keep up with my site(and keep the same current income) if I worked on the site about 32 hours a year(4 eight hours days a year would keep the site up-to-date)

I make about $800-$2000 a month from adsense, depending on the time of year, and another $1000-$1500 a month from private advertisers and affiliates, namely Ebay($20 per new registration).

Hosting runs me $20 a month. My site has about 350 pages, all related to my niche.

I feel you pain - I wasn't into Adsense this time last year so I don't know firsthand the risk that you feel. I do have some other revenue streams besides Adsense, but feel like ups and downs of Adsense are pretty light month to month and can be made up by better optimizing your site(s).

Forgot to mention... I don't spend anything on advertising(very good search engine rankings for my niche), but I do take the time to publish a newsletter each month, I allow 2 days for this, my last monthly newsletter took my about 10 hours to write, I have a little over 20,000 subscribers.

Also, my site's been online since 1999.

How much time do you spend on your site(s)

A lot, but the work isn't directly related to AdSense.

I use AdSense the old-fashioned way: by dropping the code into my page borders and letting Google match ads to my existing content.

and how much do you spend on advertising in relation to Adsense earnings

Nothing.
