Another interesting thing is the CTR for other channels on the site didn't decrease that much. That means I wasn't going to get the other clicks anyway. (That makes me feel a little better...)
I should have a few clicks from yesterday's channel reports by tomorrow. I will updaed you with the numbers.
According to my channels reports the click amounts for the Adlinks channels are double the Adsense blocks. So far they are sporting 2 for 2!
I also am starting to see large impression numbers without any clicks. Perhaps we are not using Ad Links correctly? Hopefully someone that has some success with Ad Links will be kind enough to share their secret once some decent data comes in.
And I was starting to see a doubling of impression numbers but without any channel data!
In my rush to implement AdLinks earlier in the week, I goofed and left the channel field empty. Drat! No channel statistics for the first four or five days. :-(
A word of caution to publishers rejecting AdLinks based on early returns: Doublecheck your assumptions. (Remember how the exit polls predicted a Kerry victory?) It's also possible that Google has a few kinks to iron out when reporting this new AdLinks data.
Still, yesterday was a record-high click day for me. It's too soon to tell (and because of my goof, I will know later rather than sooner), but I strongly suspect that AdLinks has everything to do with my click count spiking upward.
Think of this scenario: Your visitors see some interesting keywords on adlinks, and clicked on it. They are brought to a page with several other links. As a person who's interested in those links, naturally they will click on most of them. Now, would this be why there are a higher number of clicks there? Would google be considering them as invalid clicks?
I'm pretty unhappy with the roll back. That's about 15% reduced.
I wasn't disappointed, so I started a new thread ;)
