It looks like Lycos/Tripod/Angelfire is using Google Adsense now, unless I'm quite mistaken. If they do well, maybe they'll tone down the popups.
Now, to tweak my own websites so I can get in on this action too. After all, I'm getting much more traffic than these forgotten corners of freesiteland . . .

Lycos.co.uk sites have been for a couple of months...in an ugly left frame.

That's the Content targeted Ads programme, only accepting sites with very high pageviews. The money goes to Lycos, not the individual webmasters.
Man, when i first started on the web i used angelfire, recently i went to a free host hosted site (don't remember which one) and they had floating banners that obscured the content, i hope to hell google doesn't allow that, and that angelfire/lycos/freehostingwebsitesfromhell aren't going to use ansense, IMHO it degrades the whole program for a quick buck.
