I was just discussing with my wife that we're getting better CPM at night while we're asleep than we get during the rest of the day. The only conclusion we came up with is it's possibly the Europeans as my site gets a HUGE amount of European traffic, second only to US traffic. With Euro targetted ads running and the current difference in the exchange rate we're speculating this makes the higher CPM.

Anyone else notice this?

As advertiser, I don't even show ads to US visitors. In my business Europeans convert much better. Also as a publisher I have better CPM at day when most of the visitors are from Europe

I have several sites in English and in German.

I have proof for both speculations.

the English sites have higher CPM
the German sites have higher CPM

The CPM of some sites are so different,
that's impossible to come to a general
conclusion.

jettero,

I was wondering if you know whether the Euro ads show up as a higher CPM in USD based on the current exchange rates. It would make sense that 1 EURO would show as a higher CPM for me than 1 USD, unless Google makes everyone advertise in US dollars, any hints?

The CPMs are to different to compare

At some sites, the english version has up to 3 times higher CPM

At some sites, the german version has up to 3 times higher CPM

OK, lets try this from another angle....

If someone bid 1 EURO vs 1 USD, the 1 EURO would be worth more, like $1.50 or whatever the current rate is.

Assuming a 50% split with Google, in USD$, the 1 EURO would pay $0.75 vs. $0.50 for the US ad.

Does that make sense?

current exchange rate

1 euro = 1.313 50% split = .65
1 dollar = 1.000 50% split = .50
1 pound = 1.913 50% split = .95

based on your 50% split UK advertisers would give the best CPM but this is pure speculation

If I remember correctly the minimum bid in Europe is higher than .05 USD (.05 euros?) but don't quote me on that. Could be the difference though.

Yes, it is pure speculation that was based in part on higher paying ads on my site appear to be paying off while the US should be asleep. My CPM actually goes down a bunch starting about 9am PST (Noon EST) and is miserable during the evening hours in the US.
