Actually, I don't mind the PSAs...

I just changed the ad format one one of my sites and forgot to change the alternate-ad field (I usually point it to a logo that directs to my front page). This site gets the odd PSA because although it's a popular topic with advertisers, my text is sometimes unable to avoid stop words.

My first thought when I saw PSAs was "Oh no!" but then I thought "What the hey..? It's not as if they detract from the look of the site, and I wasn't trying to monetize my alternates anyway.

My only slight reservation is: Why US based charities when I (and my site) are based in the UK?

For many charitable groups or non-profits, you can get banners - we did this for the red cross right after the tsusami disaster. This might be a better way to control the situation than let google pick a random, probably irrelevent group to show to your audience.

I have seen Canadian and UK PSAs show up, but they don't seem to be geo-targeted like regular ads are.
