Google AdSense direct deposit possibilities?

The AdSense/Adwords paid referral program asks for banking details for direct deposit payments of referral earnings. I am wondering if this is the small beta testing ground for eventually offering direct deposits for AdSense publishers, at least for those with a US-based bank account. This would allow Google to work out all the kinks before offering it as a beta payment program for publishers and before it goes to a publisher-wide release.

Or at least a girl can hope ;)

I thought that's what they were asking for the checking account information for, but when I read the terms and FAQ of the referral program, it said that they paid by regular check.

Still hoping for Adsense direct deposit payments though.
