Forum site no longer showing related ads

Worked fine November & December

On the home page of a forum site we run we are now only getting "web hosting" and "forum" related ads showing. In November and December we getting good quality and targetted ads showing.

On the other pages of the forum we are now only getting on ad panel of targetted ads and the other panel(s) are showing the Google alternative ads. Again this was fine in November and December.

Initially I thought this was simply because it was January and many businesses had stopped their ads, but now at the end of January this problem is still occurring.

We are using phpbb2 and it is the home page. I have modified the forum header to ad some topic related links and more in the footer.

Actually the situations are very different.

1. It had been working correctly for several months on our forum site, where as it never work properly on your forum.

2. The forum software used are different. We are using a very well known open source product.

Did you recently add a mod/hack that could affect spiderability? Upgrade versions?

Make a change to your robots.txt file?

Site not allowing google media bot to crawl for some other reason?
ie. too slow, times out?

Yes I changed version.

I don't think it is less spiderable, but I think the change in the version number may have been the trigger as it would have been classified as new content. Bugger!

I have made some changes to the text in the footer and already ads on some of the inside pages have started showing again. I just hope this makes the difference for the home page.

It is amazing that such a very small change made all the difference.
