Adsense ads do not show up most of the time

Tried all - cleared cache, checked code - no luck still

I use IE 5.5 on Win98. The adsense ads on my sites simply refuse to show up almost 80% of the time. No PSAs, just blank space where the ad is supposed to appear.

I have tried everything - cleared the cache, deleted cookies, re-checked the code (The site is not on a frames page). But I still can't view the ads. It is only sometimes the ads show up, when I go to my site through a google result link. Even that does not ensure adsense ads show up every time.

My site does have a popunder however. Does that make a difference.

I see no such problems with Firefox. Is there a browser tweak to handle this issue? I am concerned if most people viewing my sites with IE5 or IE5.5 can view these adsense ads.

I have the same thing right now. I noticed it the other day too. It gave me a shock as I thought maybe I have been struck off or something. Then the ads came back again.

Now I am noticing it again and it makes me wonder if it is just me or whether other users are noticing it as well..

Its annoying and may also cause lost revenue.

I have four sites all different, frames, no frames, different hosts etc.

Does anyone know why this happens?

Blank space where the ad is supposed to be is usually a sign of some kind of filtering going on. If you are using a personal firewall like Norton, temporarily disable it and see what happens (I know for a fact that adsense works in IE 5.5).

Also note that adsense won't show if you have javascript disabled. Sounds silly but go and look at your settings in IE and make sure its on. But if there is an exactly sized gap of what the adsense ad size is supposed to be, then javascript IS running, otherwise it would be collapsed.

I have the same problem with IE 6.0 but on XP. I did reduce the amount to be left in my cache and it seemed to help. We'll see. I think it gets going when I have been working on the site and doing a lot or refreshing my pages.

must be an IE problem I just tried on Netscape and the ads are there.

I've been having this problem too with IE. Sometimes only restarting the computer helps. Not a problem in Firefox.

I think it's related either to SP2 or the new Microsoft antispyware program, which I am using (although disabling it does not bring the ads back).

You might want to make sure you have the latest Java runtime installed. Or try uninstalling and then reinstalling Java.

[java.sun.com...]

Also be aware that some popup blockers can affect javascript execution, even if the script is not used to create a popup. So you might try turning off any popup blockers. I have XP SP2 along with MS Antispyware and have never had any problem with ads displaying.

Camper, java has nothing to do with javascript, installing (or disabling) java will not affect adsense's javascript.
Most PC's will do quite well with java disabled along with active-x but that is another thread entirely.

My theory is that IE is somehow forgetting that I've told it not to block javascript and ads. It's very annoying.

I'm having this same problem with one site and I just realized that removing the www makes them show every time. Why would that be?

Are you sure you're looking at the on-line version of the site. Adsense won't show on local copies.

Try logging into the control panel first, and then see if the ads show up. I have to do this first when using IE, else the ads won't show.

I have no such problem when using Firefox.

In my case, yes, I am looking at it online in IE. I only noticed this when viewing my site through IE (which is unusual for me because lately I use Firefox most of the time, and previously I used Netscape). I didn't notice it when editing my site locally with Homesite, even though I use IE as my default in Homesite. So it's odd and I think it's probably related to some security change Microsoft made lately. It doesn't happen all the time, just intermittently.
