Hi

I'm currently bidding on a specific keyword in adwords Ireland. I was just browing a search portal which uses adsense and disovered that they display very generic adverts which are unrealted to the search term I typed in. My question is how can I get my advert placed there?

Any advice really appreciated :)

The first question is do you really want to get your ads shown on this portal? If you succeed then you will appear on searches that are pretty much unrelated to your advert. People might click on your ad out of vague interest but not seriously interested so you end up paying for traffic that isn't going to convert.

Most of us have just looked at Adsense targetting in terms of getting relevant ads served on our pages. Interesting to turn that whole viewpoint around.

Perhaps just bidding on phrases including the name of the portal will work? Otherwise look at the page title, text in the first paragraph, anchor text of the first link - these seem to be factors in Adsense interpretation of what a page is about. You can then bid on these terms.

Yes, I would agree that in most cases we I would require very targeted traffic, however it seems that I'm not getting many impressions using adwords to date and the site could be useful to most people so that's why I am trying to widen the campaign. Thanks for your advice!

This sounds like a good question for the AdWords forum, which is geared to advertisers on both Google's SERPs and the AdSense network:
