What made AdSense #1 - it was so simple, in fact

I remember, years ago, Altavista was the most popular search engine that almost everyone was using & telling their friends (still not sure why it was so popular, maybe it sounded like AstalaVista Baby?)

On the first day when I first saw the Google search engine (years and years ago) I said to myself that Google will become the most popular search engine one day, and I was sure as my name. Why? The answer is so simple: Different than all and all of the others,

"Google was giving users JUST what they need: a search engine"

Now you may think that "so what about the others" but think again.. Google is exactly the same now as what it was years ago: a very simple, very fast loading welcome page with only 1, small graphics.

Of course there is more than that behind the success of Google, as a search engine. I must say that their search & ranking algorithm is really good and (by not being so sure) I think they introduced "if there are many websites that link to you, then you must have something really important and I will give a better ranking to you" rule. I may be wrong. Anyway..

we can see the same, exactly the same on Google's advertising program AdSense: simplicity.. Remember:

1. text links (simple)
2. crawling the page and serving ads only relevant to the web page.

look at number 2 above.. Now, that's what the "G Point" we are talking is.. Same logic on Google search engine: give people what they want...

To be more specific, I just started another ad service that looks like text ads (banner text ads) on the pages which doesn't have AdSense ads on, and those are not targeted ads. Guess what happened: about 1,500 impressions and still no clicks.. even one..

Now, when I come that website, I saw everyone so excited with their AdSense earnings, every single hour...

So do I
:)

I think one of the reasons adsense did so well from the start was due to the massive webmaster following Google has. Everyone saw the oppertunity to earn through Google and hoped on board. The Google brand is powerful enough to market just about anything.
