Bottom of page banners

Do they work / affect smartpricing?

I've just implemented these on some of my longer pages to see what happens. Ovbiously it will take a while to evaluate how they work on my site. I was wondering what other people's experiences were with them. Do they work and increase revenue?

I know that by putting two banners on a page you increase the page impressions and decrease the CTR - that's something I can live with. But does having a lower CTR on the page affect smartpricing in any way? Do they pay a higher price per click if the CTR on that page is higher?

The highest paying ads are shown first - so your second set of ads will be more likely to show lower paying adverts.

It simply depends on which adsense block is in the page code first, that will get the highest value clicks.

Yes, be weary of placing multiple ad units on the same page. If you have two 5-ad 728x90 banners, you could potentially have bid values ranging from $1.50 to $.05. As you can see, your earnings could vary greatly if your users all clicked on the lowest bid ads. With that in mind, if you run two ads sections on one page, make sure your first set of ads are in the best possible location for generating clicks.

For my sites, I found that if my topic/content is related to higher paying keywords, I can get away with showing multiple ad banners. If my EPC is low for a site, then having multiple ad banners hurts me more since the low end bids can sometimes be near zero.

Just my opinion. Good luck!

You would think. But I have three ad blocks on my site, and while the first block has way higher EPC than the other two, frequently the third block has higher EPC than the second. No idea why. I get a good enough CTR/EPC overall that I'm not inclined to mess with it either.

Martingale: Sounds like you are doing well. I follow the same philosophy, once I get it working well, I leave it be and focus on more important things... like getting more visitors! ;-)
