How come when I use banners and leaderboards, I can get the URL to be the same colour as the background (white) but when I use rectangles, if I put the bg and url as the same colour, it defaults back to black?

That is the way Adsense forces visibility of the URL in that (and others) particular format... best you can do is make the URL a few shades away of the background.

The reasoning is beyond me.

yeah, I can understand that...but how come it is perfectly possible using 468 or leaderboard banners: white on white no problems!

right, just did a bit of experimenting.

If the ads have a lot of text and there are four of them in a leaderboard, they all get a bit bunched up and there is NO URL shown at all. (not that it's white on white)

this hardly ever happens with rectangles as they have a lot of width for each ad.

this is probably ancient news....
