Targeting Specific Adverts

Is there any way that this can be done?

I apologise in advance if this has been discussed before. I have a website that I created at no charge for a non-profit making organisation (I am a member). At the time I created the site I stipulated that should it become successful I may place some adverts on it to try to recoup some of the cost of the site. I also guaranteed the organisation that when I had done so I would pass any continuing income on to them.

The site looks as though it is about to take off so yesterday I placed Adsense on it to see how it would go. The Adsense ads that are appearing are for stuff that I know will get me about 1c per click if I am lucky. Is there anyway to adjust the content so that it will display different ads? Can "Adsense attractive" text be placed strategically for this purpose?

yes I think it can , but it will still need to be loosely tied to the theme of the site

e.g. a non-profit site about animal cruelty strategically placed text about cat food would get you some adds from pet suppliers
but trying to get adds for mortgages by placing text about mortgages would not only ruin the site credibillity but suspect it would not work iether

just my own thoughts no proof so take it with a grain of salt

I just had a great revelation. I have hobby related sites and my visitors are more interested in ads for supplies to make widgets than buying a finished widget. I've been adding more of the words involved in making these widgets with a little success but often it didn't help at all. In the last few days I've come to realize that on many pages I have the name of the finished product far more times than the words for making them. So I get ads for the finished widgets. Meanwhile on pages where the finished product's name is rare I get the supply ads.

So it may not be lack of key words but too many of the wrong word that is bringing poor ads.

So does anyone know the best place to put the targeted words or is it just the same as for standard SEO?

The only difference is that putting the key word you want adsense to use just before or after the ad sometimes helps.
