Over the past two weeks I have seen my commission per click go from x to 0.5x i.e. a 50% drop in the normal rate that has remained fairly constant for my website for the past 6 months.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you how frustrating this is. It has made me seek out this forum in the hope of finding some answers.
I know that this sort of activity is easily possible with the varying Adwords advertisers and CPCs, but a 50% drop in commissions is just too much. I have waited a couple of weeks but still it remains at a low.
CTR hasn't really changed although it was up slightly at 26% for a couple of days. Overall earnings have dropped by about 1/3.
Anyone had similar experiences or any suggestions?
Possibilities:
1) Your topic is seasonal, and you're headed into a slow season. (In contrast to my topic, which is just emerging from its slow season.)
2) You're heavily dependent on a few advertisers, and one of those advertisers has turned off content advertising (either temporarily or for good).
3) An adjustment in "smart pricing" discounts for advertisers has lowered the net value of your clicks.
There may be other reasons for your drop in earnings; those are just the ones that come to mind.
There are many reasons for your EPC to drop, then jump up and then settle down into a "normal" rate. there are several posts on this forum that will help you, but to paraphrase as to why you are experiencing this:
1. G sometimes holds clicks from one day to the next to review the clicks, there fore you may be credited the $$ from one day and it will be place on today's results (someone let me know if I mis-respresented what Macro posted sometime ago)
2. An advertiser either pulled their ads or paused the campaign
There are other reasons, the bottom line you will see over time they will fluctuate. My two cents-just sit back, create new quality content and keep doing the good work!
