Have expired domain (was non profit) with decent backlinks, no PR

Would adsense work in this case?

Based on an ill-advised decision I purchased an expired domain name for its PR value (OK, give me a break - for a while .org and .net were actually keeping their PRs!). As you can imagine PR went down to 0 the next day. My original goal was to change the topic's contents to suit my needs and acquire some new relevant links (which wouldn't have been hard with the original PR5).
Now that is out of the question, and I am trying to "salvage" the site, by monetizing in some other way (as I paid way more than I should have for it). Right now I just slapped the home page from archive.com on it, just to have something until I make the decision as to what to do.
Here is where I want to ask for your advice. The site still has some legitimate links (about 150 in yahoo), all from other related sites. It used to be a useful resource site for a particular subgroup of society (I don't want to go into particulars, specially because some of the kwds could also be used for adult sites). I get about 50 uniques a day - not really much. Would it make sense to create a little bit of original contents, put some adsense ads on it and let it bring a buck or two a day? I have never done adsense, my expertise is in a different area, but I just hate to see the site "rot".
What are your opinions - do something about it or let it go?

Why not try adsense - what have you got to lose. Rember the old saying:

Make a useful site, then ad adsense (having a useful site will likely foster additional ways to make money as well) - I wouldn't be surprised to see Google come down hard on 'made for adsense only' sites quite soon.

Why waste a good domain if you don't have to?

I had a similar problem - and adsense is working quite well

AdSense based upon Yahoo traffic can generate some revenue.
MSN is in question because of the beta going live.
