Sudden increase in CPM, normal?

Welcome all,

I am new to this forum and hope to have some substantial input for the future. But first a question.

I am using Adsense for some weeks now after I was disappointed by the income generated by conventional advertizing. Results with adsense have been great until now already, but since a few days I see a huge CPM increase. Because CTR only slightly increased I calculated that the average price paid per click is now three times higher than a week before.

Can this be caused by the Google matching algorithm to find better advertisments for my content after some weeks, or could it be because of the announced changes in Google's policy to only show one advertisment per domain, so advertizers are bidding higher on keywords now to keep on the page?

Advertisments were content related from the moment I started with adsense, almost no PSA's were displayed.

I just noticed the same, but in the opposite direction :(

I added AdSense to a website and the first days we had a very good CPM, then it was deterioting and now it is stable at a low level. Has anybody seen something similar? Any suggestion on how to improve CPM? The displayed ads were always targeted, no PSA.

You'll go mad trying to figure out the eCPM. It's really impossible to tell why it's high one day, low the next, normal the very next day. Most people here who have been using Adsense for a while will tell you the same. Your best best to find out where the clicks are coming from/what content is drawing those huge eCPM is to use channels. Otherwise, don't beat yourself over the head trying to figure this thing out. Google works in mysterious ways. Unfortunately.

Webmastertexas, I am not trying to figure out the ePCM, but until now I could explain most what happend.

Adding more content increased the number of visitors, impressions and thereby revenue. CTR and CPM didn't change much. Obvious.

Changing color and layout of the advertisments made them look more natural fitting in the pages which makes users think they are more like "added value" than advertisments. This increased my CTR. Understandable.

But now I am puzzled. Please don't take me wrong. I am very happy with this CPM increase but would like to know if it are just lucky days, or a trend for the comming time.

Only Go(d/oogle) will know for sure.

My estimated CPC has almost trippled in recent days, not that im complaining :)

Variations in price pro click may go up and down for several reasons. Seasonal products, new advertisers who bid more, better related ads, etc... Also CTR and pageviews may vary in myserious ways.
I'm using Adsense now for 10 month's and I will be happy in 3 months when I'm able to compare April 2004 with April 2005.

I'll just accept the sudden increase in CPM and use my time to add more good content to my sites. After I have read many discussions on this forum I concluded that good content is the best way to get visitors, keep visitors and thus earning income through the Adsense program.

Still a long way to go until I reach the UPS club or Premium service :-)

It's probably not even because of anything you added. It really is ridiculous how Google hides all the relevant information you'd think webmasters need to know to increase earnings. Yesterday my traffic numbers were the highest I've ever seen, and CTR went up about 30%, but my earnings went down about 20% from the day before!

Statistics are back to normal now. It seemed to have been a weekend spike.
