But I'm not using Adsense... I'm puzzled.

I am promoting my site via Adwords, however, I am receiving several dozen hits from pagead2.googlesyndication.com (which is commonly associated with Adsense).

What source could this possibly be coming from?

You have content targeting turned on. You are getting visitors who are clicking on your ads on sites running AdSense.

Why do some referrals show up as pagead2... while others show the actual referring domain?

if you have search network on , then sometimes this happens.

Since it might be due to adsense search
