2. Follow googles own guidelines. They have papers on the site with suggestions for changing around your ads look and feel for the best CTR.
I think for the "do's" pretty much anything goes - experimentation is the key to success with AdSense. What works for the goose might not automatically work for the gander.
For the "donts" : never click on your own ads, never view your AdSense control panel on anyone elses computer (ever), do not encourage people to click on your ads and read the AdSense TOS several times before you start loading it onto your pages.

What do you have to lose by trying it?
I feel it alters the whole feel of a site, which is why I have never taken the plunge before, also encourages people to leave rather than explore the site. Which is why I wondered whether it was viable or would I end up with $10 a month or something?
Just got the preview tool installed and frustratingly many of my internal pages have right click disabled so I cannot seem to use it, been all over the toolbar to no avail.
Are small sites more in danger of getting invalid clicks? (I get just 20-30 unique visitors on them from search engines.)
Or should I wait for traffic on these small sites to pick up?

Do a mockup of your page and look at it offline.
Try playing with your ad settings to get the ads to blend into the page as much as possible.
You'd be surprised at how you can incorporate AdSense into a site. If you really don't like it, you don't have to use it.
You can always start off with a 125 x 125 button (single) ad. There's no need to go mad to start with - dip your toe in the water. No-one can tell you whether you'll make $10 a month, or $1,000 a month.
I'm afraid theres only one way to find out.

The first time I tried AS I placed it on my index page. I noticed a definite drop in my regular sells. But after reading more info about it in this forum I decided to try on more pages and my eyes could not believe what I saw. I was very pleased. After more research and a couple of redesigns I think I have a good balance between selling to my target group and AS.
