Dumb Question - Is Adsense Format Copyright?

I know this sounds like a dumb question but I have been running adsense on alot of my pages for quite some time and while I have been making OK revenue the ads are horribly off-topic! This bothers me greatly as I am concerned about what my readers are viewing.

I was going to create an ad-block format similiar to that of adsense with my own 'On Target' ads in them. Ads by 'MeMyCompany'.

This block will have nothing from google at all, the format looks very similiar to an adsense block though!

Is this considered Taboo?

You can do that no problem.

Just don't do it on the same page as adsense, and of course don't put' ad's by google' or anything misleading.

Thanks for your reply. I have completely dropped adsense from about 5000 pages and starting running my own target ads. In the little time I have been watching it, it looks pretty promising, I am kind of surprised by the results!

Please can you tell me the alternative to adsense.

Thanks in advance.

In my situation it only took me a little time to create a system very similiar to adsense. Clients can sign-up, login, create ad blocks, choose days, times of day, what content, what section, view impressions, view clicks, edit and so fourth.

Step 2: Now I just need my own custom spider to tell my new system what ads for what page.

Really quite trivial if you ask me!

Do be careful if you end up running both yours and AdSense on the same page - then Google will have a problem with it ;)
