should I use a US adress?

At the end of August, I will have earned a 4 digit amount on Google Adsense. Since I will be in the US during September, I wonder, if I could use the US address to receive the cheque. I could save some cashing fees, getting my money in the states, and I would get the cheque sooner.

Could I get into tax problems? I do this privately, and will soon obtain a business licence in Germany, but I don't know, if that could cause problems in the US.

Your help is appreciated!

I am not sure about tax implications, you'd need to talk to an expert about that one!

Do keep in mind that you might not receive your check until the beginning of October, since Google has until the 30th of the month to send a check for payment.

Second, do you already have a relationship with a bank in the US? If not, you will find it difficult to cash a 4 figure check in the US, even if it is from a big name like Google. And even if you can, many banks will put a hold on funds for several days when the check is over a certain amount, depending on the kind of account you have.

Just some things to keep in mind :)

May be you should open a check account in USA. Many webmasters here are requesting direct deposit for AddSense payments, may be they will implement that.

If you open the account, remember to ask for an ATM card. I'm quite sure it works allover Europe.

...and congratulations for your figures.

Regarding the tax implications, I can not help and agree that you should speak to a tax accountant. I would personally use this opportunity to open a bank account in a US bank. You can then even ask Adsense to send the checks there to be deposited.

it would be something like:

Your name
c/o Your American Bank
Main Street
City, State Zip

Things that you should ask.

- Whether or not they provide that service {some small community banks that serve inmigrant communities and private banking departments do so, and some even for free }

- The ability to execute transactions via fax.

- How easy can you move the money between the US bank and your home bank.

- The ATM card is a great idea and the fees should be minimal.

P.S: They will probably put a hold on the check funds availability, but that should not be much of a problem. I think Google is using a NY bank for the disbursements so you might be able to cash it if you are going to NY and go directly to that bank. Take as many pieces of picture ids as you have or can get your hands on. Things are a bit stricter now than they used to be.
