Shared Borders and the Ad to run

Quick question... Your opinions....

After pasting the AdSense code into a page, when it is scanning the content of the page to determine which ad will run, does the content in the shared borders play a part or not? Or, does it just scan the actual page content?

The content in my shared borders does not show up in the code of the page, and that is why I ask.

It seems to scan our shared borders. It also seems to grab the text closest to where the actual adsense code is placed on the page. Say the code is placed in the middle of the page and is right justified, it will grabs the text in the right shared border at about the same distance down the page.

This is only observation, not concrete fact. I am sure other things come into play such as how many times a specific word appears on the page etc.
