Just learned that my bank (one of the huge ones) has put a hold onto G check clearance.

Anyone else or is it just my bank?

one of the major US banks puts checks on hold if you were below $1k at any day of the previous 30 days... that can happen even if you usually have tons of money in the bank.

Yes I did have this challenge for the past few months, but they deposited it immediately this time.

Seems that if your account does not hold a certain balance for an extended period of time they can't allow a large check to go through... especially if it is from out of state.

At least that is the policy for BofA. I even went to Citibank(since that is where Googles checks originate from) to see if I were to have an account with them how long it would take to deposit. They told me 3-4 days because it is an out of state "Citibank Check"! They couldn't even check funds, which I thought was strange.

Anyway, now my bank deposits immediately because I have developed a pattern of depositing a certain size check and they say ...okay...its good!

oh nos 5 days wait!

here in Canada my bank used to only hold the checks for 5 days and I've had no problem since I started with it a year ago. Last check they held for 27 days and told me it is their normal policy to hold foreign checks for that long.

Guess where I'm not depositing US checks anymore.
